The Four Steps to Body Trust and Respect:

In the masterclass, I’ll guide you through my 4-step approach, grounded in research on emotional regulation, cognition, and self-compassion:

👍 Step 1: Uncover the root cause of your body dissatisfaction and explore how it impacts both you and your children. Understanding this is the first step toward change.

👍 Step 2: Redefine your body’s purpose. Through a personalized assessment, you’ll discover where you are on the path to body liberation and how to start moving forward.

 👍 Step 3: Reframe your thoughts to shift your actions. Learn cognitive and emotional tools that will help you change your mindset and break free from old patterns.

 👍 Step 4: Tear down your old narrative and develop a plan for small, radical steps that move you and your family toward a life of body trust and respect.

STEP 1: Uncover the root cause of your body dissatisfaction.

Your beliefs about your body are formed through an oppressive system called diet culture, which we’ve been socialized to believe in.

How we think about our bodies, and how we feel about our bodies affects how we act towards our bodies. 

We parent our children about their body image based on our thoughts about how bodies should be.

In order to change how we parent our children, we must first change our thoughts about our own body first.

STEP 2: Redefine your body’s purpose.

“Your body is an instrument, not an ornament,” by Lindsay and Lexie Kite, both PhDs and experts in the field of body image.

Take the Body Image Assessment developed by Stephanie Dodier to uncover your current body belief.

Decide how you want to define beauty and how you want to view your body.

Answer the ultimate questions: Why do you have a body? Why does a child have a body?

Learn about the steps in the Beyond the Food Body Image Scale developed by Stephanie Dodier: body violence, body hatred, body respect, body neutrality, and body liberation.

STEP 3: Reframe your thoughts to shift your actions.

Cognitive distortions create a sense of safety in our thinking but can also limit us.

Examine cognitive distortions such as:

- Comparing

- All-or-nothing thinking

- Mental filtering

- Jumping to conclusions

- Blaming your body

- Catastrophizing

- Projecting

- Emotional reasoning

Reframe your thinking to serve yourself and develop a new narrative of trust and respect.

Learn emotional regulation strategies to implement at home immediately.

Share your new approach with your family.

Seek ongoing guidance, support, and community.

STEP 4: Tear down your old narrative and develop a plan for small, radical steps that move you and your family toward a life of body trust and respect.

Commit to developing a foundation of self-compassion, including Kristin Neff’s work on self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness.
